This department was created under the Mayorship of Mr Raoul Rochecouste and is responsible for the creation and maintenance of gardens, squares and traffic islands.
The Parks and Gardens have a most essential role in town life, specially that of densely populated one like the City of Port-Louis and these are as important to the City as in any sanitary service
.

Parks and Gardens provide the following advantages :

These green spaces are the lungs of the City as they purify the polluted air and refreshes the atmosphere.

They provide a great area, a free and safe place and shade for the inhabitants in an attractive surrounding.

In addition to the colours, coolness, quiet and pride which they bring to the City, they are ideal sites for placing the statues of great men of the past.

Today, the City Council of Port-Louis maintains the following gardens and squares :

  2. Marie Reine de la Paix

  3. Vallijee Green Space

  4. Line Barracks surroundings, including Orleans, Jemmapes and Deschartes streets

  5. Champ de Mars (Edward VII)

  6. Plaine Verte Gardens, Concorde and Police Station

  7. Subramania Bharati Park

  8. Town Hall Court Yard

  9. St. Francois Xavier Green Space

  10. Robert Edward Hart Garden

  11. Pere Laval Avenue, Ste. Croix
